LV S.T.E.A.M. League Child Protective Policy
Protecting Our Students. Supporting Our Mentors. Strengthening Our Community.
Purpose
The LV S.T.E.A.M. League is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all youth participants. Every student deserves to learn, build, and explore in a setting free from harm, intimidation, neglect, or abuse of any kind.
This Child Protective Policy establishes clear standards and responsibilities for all mentors, instructors, staff, and volunteers who work with minors through the League. It reflects our commitment to student safety, accountability, transparency, and compliance with applicable Nevada laws governing youth programs and child protection.
1. Two Deep Supervision Policy
At no time may a single adult be alone with a participant under the age of 18.
A minimum of two approved adults must be present during all League activities, workshops, events, meetings, or transportation involving minors.
All supervising adults must be cleared through the LV S.T.E.A.M. League screening and onboarding process prior to working with students.
If one supervising adult must step away temporarily for any reason, another cleared adult must immediately assume supervision.
Private one on one interactions between any adult and a student are not permitted. This includes in person interactions as well as communication by phone, text message, email, direct messaging, or social media. Any necessary communication must include another mentor, League representative, or the student’s parent or guardian.
2. Screening, Training, and Adult Responsibilities
All adults serving in any capacity with students, including mentors, coaches, volunteers, staff, contractors, or technical assistants, are required to:
Complete a background check and clearance prior to engagement
Complete child safety and mandated reporter training where applicable under Nevada law
Review and sign the LV S.T.E.A.M. League Child Protective Policy and Conduct Agreement
Follow all supervision, safety, and communication protocols at all times
Immediately report unsafe conditions, policy violations, or suspected misconduct
Failure to complete or maintain these requirements will result in removal from any role involving student contact.
3. Reporting Suspected Abuse or Misconduct
The LV S.T.E.A.M. League takes all concerns regarding student safety seriously.
All adults working with minors are required to comply with Nevada laws regarding the reporting of suspected child abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
If any adult observes, suspects, or receives information regarding potential abuse, neglect, or inappropriate behavior involving a student, they must:
Ensure the immediate safety of the student
Notify League leadership as soon as possible
File a report with the appropriate Nevada child welfare agency or local law enforcement as required by law
No individual may discourage, delay, prevent, or interfere with the reporting of suspected abuse. Failure to report may result in immediate dismissal from the program and potential legal consequences.
4. Code of Conduct for Adults Working With Minors
All adults associated with the LV S.T.E.A.M. League agree to:
Maintain professional, respectful, and appropriate boundaries with all students
Refrain from physical contact except when necessary for safety or instruction and only in observable, public settings
Avoid private meetings, personal invitations, or off site interactions with minors unless explicitly approved and supervised by League leadership
Use respectful, supportive, and age appropriate language at all times
Report concerns regarding the conduct or behavior of another adult immediately to League leadership
Any behavior that compromises student safety, trust, or well being will not be tolerated.
5. Nevada Compliance and Organizational Commitment
The LV S.T.E.A.M. League operates as a privately run educational organization and complies with applicable Nevada laws related to youth safety, supervision, background screening, and mandatory reporting.
Our standards are designed not only to meet legal requirements but to exceed them through proactive supervision practices, clear expectations, and a culture of transparency, accountability, and shared responsibility.
Protecting students is a collective obligation shared by the League, its mentors, its volunteers, and the families we serve.
6. Acknowledgment and Agreement
By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the LV S.T.E.A.M. League Child Protective Policy.
I agree to comply fully with all supervision, safety, and reporting requirements and to act responsibly and ethically in all interactions with minors.
I understand that failure to follow this policy may result in immediate dismissal from the program and, when appropriate, further action under applicable law.
